Driving through the Peak District -Chipping Campden to York

We'll be driving to York from Chipping Campden. I'd like to drive through the Peak District on the way. Would one night in the District give us time to make some stops along the way? We must be in York the next day. What are your thoughts?

Not real sure of the question, hence I've left it alone for a couple of days. The drive is probably about five hours and that's if you do as much of the route as possible in the park. I'd do it in one day in the summer, but have no idea what stops you have in mind.

I agree with Ed - data, data, we need data!

among others, what time do you need to be in York?

You say, "we". Does we include kiddiewinkles? Or are you all adults? What sort of things interest you?

Thanks for your response! I'm thinking more of a pleasant scenic drive from Chipping Campden up to York through the Peak District as an alternative to driving directly to York on the highway. Maybe a few stops along the way although we would like to be in York that same evening. Although, we could spend a night in the Peaks and drive to York the next morning. Are there a few must see places you'd recommend....a place to stay????? Thanks again!

We spent one night in the Peaks area a few years ago because I wanted to see Eyam, the famous plague village. We also visited a couple of minor stone circles in that area and one historic site (it was a bit of a cross between a stately home and a castle)---I think its name was Haddon House or Hatfield House--it's where the Princess Bride was filmed. We did all of this easily in one day. I have never seen any reason to revisit the area. It's a bit tricky to include on a "scenic" driving tour because you have to thread your way between four large Midlands cities. You might want to instead spend your extra time that day visiting one of the beautiful ruined abbeys near York.
