driving from Cotswolds to Wales for 2 nights..Cardiff?

My sister, 18 year old daughter and I are driving from Heathrow straight on to Bath and the Cotswolds for 3 days. We thought we would then drive to Wales for 2 nights, then back to London..any thoughts on where we should go?

We spent 2 days in Wales a few years ago, and in addition to Cardiff (which I thought was just okay) we also visited Chepstow and it's ruined castle, gorgeous Tintern Abbey, and the beautiful Wye River Valley, staying near Monmouth. We also stopped by the St Fagans National History Museum, which includes dozens of houses and buildings from all over Wales and was a lot of fun, if you are a history buff!

Thanks for the info Jennifer. Maybe we should skip Cardiff and head towards Monmouth since we only have the two days. The castle sounds great. How was the lodging?

I have to speak up for Cardif! It is a marvelous city. I love the old shopping arcades. Neat, unique ("one off" as the Brits would say) shops. Good bakeries where you can grab a snack or a quick stash for a picnic. The harbor has recently been "upgraded" and is really nice. Good markets, good modern shops, and VERY GOOD resturants.

Hi Kate,

We stayed at a great bed and breakfast recommended by Rick Steves, called the Florence Hotel (http://www.florencehotel.co.uk/). The views from our room were absolutely stunning and we would definitely stay there again!

We will be in Wales in August - we will be going to St. Fagan's (2nd time there - really like it), the Cardiff History and Art Museum (which we've been to before and liked - nice displays on the history of Wales plus great impressionist art) and Caerphilly Castle. We are staying at the Town House B&B in Cardiff which has been recommended - it's right across from the Cardiff Castle. We have been to Chepstow in a prior visit, plus Tintern - liked both of those destinations.
