drive from Dingle to Galway

We were planning to do the drive from Dingle Town to Galway but now are wondering if it's too long and ambitious with 2 kids. How many hours is it really? Is there a good place to maybe stay overnight to break up the drive?

It's only a four hour drive from Dingle to Galway city - not much farther than driving from your home to Yosemite. Of course, you can make it a much longer drive if you stop along the way!

We did this as an all day drive stopping off and seeing things, touring the Burren and the Cliffs of Moher and stopped in Tralee overnight. The trip is certainly doable as a straight through drive or a scenic one that takes much longer. Even if you take the coastal road and keep it scenic you should be able to stop for lunch and still make it under 6 hours. I can only really recommend Tralee as a place to stop not a place to visit but it has restaurants, shops, gas and anything you might need but it is short on charm. It is within an hour of Dingle even if you chose to go over the narrow pass road. I thought the pass road was interesting but over-hyped as a hazard. But there is a single lane section near the top so the people above and below need to cooperate in terms of which way the traffic is going. Hope that helps, have a great trip!

Being from Texas (12 hour drives are standard), this was a pretty easy day for us. We left Dingle about 9 a.m. - stopped @ Bunratty Castle for 2 - 3 hours. Then stopped in Ennis for more photos. Arrived at our B&B in Doolin about 5. Went back to the Cliffs of Moher from 6 - 7 for an Atlantic sunset. Then dinner at Gus O'Connor's in Doolin. You didn't say how old your kids are but they might enjoy the Bunratty Folk park.
