I put this in transportation by mistake. But the question is, I have a car rental and am a slow driver and plan to drive from dorchester to bath to return the rental. But want to make a day of it. Is it realistic to go to dartmoor? I'd like to see something of devon and the moors before returning the car but don't know about distances, travel times if I am driving slowly, etc.
Hi Polly, We took the train from Dorchester to Totnes and a spectacular boat trip (@45 min) from there to Dartmoor. The landing dock is right in the middle of town. Stayed at the "Orleans" BB and back tracked a couple of days later. Dartmoor is beautiful and the entire transportation cost was miminal. Have you considered droping the car in Dorchester and train/boat it to Dartmoor and on to your destination? Also, you are very close to Weymouth which is a beautiful town. The short ride from Dorchester to Weymouth is not.
Thanks, Larry. It is tempting to ditch the car but I feel we would see more by car than landing there on foot. I'd like to drive into the moors a bit.
Try the Automobile Association (AA) route planner, it should help.
Brilliant! Thank you so much. This route planner is going to completely save me on this trip!
