I want to plan a 5 day stay in Donegal County and do not intend to drive. What are my options for getting around and guided day tours. Thanks.
If you aren't going to rent a car, your only option for getting around will be by bus. There is little rail service in the western part of Ireland. If you haven't done so already, look through several guidebooks at your local library or bookstore to help determine what you might like to see in County Donegal. We can then better help you identify what might be possible as a day tour.
Why don't you want to drive? Just a question, but I think it gives so much more flexibility.
I want to know the names of companies that provide one day tours of Donegal region. Thanks.
Barbara, I see from another post that you had a positive experience in Ireland last year - I guess it has its hooks in you now. County Donegal (preferred usage versus Donegal County) as you know is in the extreme north west of Ireland. It is rugged and beautiful and is does not see as many tourists as the places you have already visited. This probably sounds good except that it means much more limited transportation and tour options. In fact, you may find that tours more typically leave from locations outside Donegal itself. Are you set on Donegal? If not, there are some other interesting spots in Ireland, including the North of Ireland, that might be more easily accessed via public transportation.
Some web sites to check are www.donegaldirect.ie----www.donegal.ie---www.letterkenny.com and www.donegaltown.ie Also the Bus Eireann web site and Feada O'Donnell bus site as Bus Eireann does not run in some parts of Northwest Donegal.
When will you be in Donegal? I am going in April-May and may be able to find out some info on day tours in the area for you .
