what is the place with the best rate of exchange dollars to euros in paris and florence. i understand that atms charge a conciderable amount for this. if we elect to take day trips, must we have euros to pay. will we need euros for expenses in tuscany? fran

Actually, you always get a better rate when you use ATM machines with a debit card. Exchange windows charge commissions and worse rates. You will need to use Euros anywhere you go in Italy or Holland. Just as no business in your own hometown would accept Euros from a a tourist across the pond.

Atm s are the way to go, with your DEBIT card not your credit card.
You are in the wrong section by the way,, this is " To the North" France and Italy not here.
You will need euros for all the places you mentioned , Paris, Florence and Amsterdam.
