Do London Taxis accomodate five people?

R. Steve's London Guide indicates it's economical for a party of 4 or 5 to always use taxi's in London; we ARE a party of 5. My question is, do all/most London taxis seat 5 passengers? I hope so, that would be great for us.

The black cabs have a couple of fold down jump seats that ride backwards. Plenty of room for five - more or less - normal size folks.

Yes, as Frank said....if you get a black cab they will have two jump seats so you can get 5 in very comfortable. The kids will love the jump seats.

That's great; being a party of five is always a problem with taxis elsewhere. I assume there are lots of these "black" cabs?

Also is it easy to get one at the airport going to Kennsington?

Sure, but it will be expensive -- maybe 50 pounds or more.

Most "black cabs" are black but some are so covered by advertising you can't see the colour clearly. They are different than "mini cabs" which are normal passenger cars which must be licensed and will not have 5 seats unless they are vans. NEVER get in a mini cab you have not previously arranged. You will not be insured.

Kerry, you might consider plugging some cab numbers into your phone. As in any big city, flagging down a cab in rush hour can be a challenge.
