disabled traveler to the united kingdom part II

hello;

instead of lugging my wheelchair or walker with me to the united
kingdom if i need either of them i assume that i would be able to
rent either a wheelchair or a walker.

should i lug the wheelchair or walker or assume that i will be
able to rent them?

Do not assume you can rent them, though you should be able to. Do contact the hotel you plan to use first. Contact the airport services desk next.

Several hotels keep a certain number of chairs available for rent. If they don't have them, they can help you locate them, and most will have them waiting for your arrival, if that will work for you.

How significant are your mobility challenges? Will you need the wheelchair to meet you at the airport, or would you be able to meet up with it at your first hotel?

You will not be lugging it. The airline will put it in the bay of the plane when you leave and get it out for you when you arrive. By taking your chair, you know what you have. Can you walk any? I assume so, since you ask about a walker too. Take the chair, strap the walker to the back and take both if necessary. Do not assume one is always available. I take an electric scooter and use it all over Europe. It works fine for me.

I'm pretty sure that you can hire a wheel chair here. You can also hire a mobility scooter although obviously you may need to get to the shop to pick it up. My grandparents (aged 90 and 92) have started hiring two and its quite amusing to see their competitive edge as they now race each other around the park. The geriatric delinquents...

Have a look at this fact sheet from the Disabled Living Foundation (tho' I'm not sure what year its from): http://www.dlf.org.uk/sites/default/files/Wheelchair_Hire_Services_in_the_London_Area.pdf

Also try searching for "mobility scooter hire uk" or "wheelchair hire uk"

YES, you can "assume" that you would be able to rent a wheelchair in the UK here is one website......http://www.fredwalton.co.uk/......also if you type in "rent a wheelchair in the UK" there are others. You will not have trouble being able to rent one.

Here is another website...they list different types of wheelchairs and the prices. It it £25.00 for the first week then £10.00 per week after that.

Hope you have a great time in the UK.
