Dingle to the Cliffs then on to Dublin in a day!

Wondering if we can easily make this journey, Departing Dingle in the am (allowing time at the cliffs) and be back in Dublin in the evening? Trying to allow two full days to tour Dublin. We would have the entire day. The plan would be to arrive at the Dublin accomedations early evening.......

Can you make it? Sure. Easily? No.
Dingle to Liscannor (the Cliffs) will be close to a four hour drive with no stops for gas, lunch, photos, etc. Liscannor to Dublin will be another four. Add in an hour or so at the cliffs, perhaps a stop in the Burren (but skip Doolin and its pubs and music), and you have about a ten+ hour day of driving. If you left Dingle at 6 a.m. and everything ran according to plan all day (no sheep in the road, no road work, nobody needs to eat or use the bathroom), you could conceivably reach Dublin by early evening - but it won't work that way. And you really don't need two full days in Dublin. I would suggest staying in Doolin and doing the rest of the drive early the next mornng. You'd still have most of your first day in Dublin, and you'll have a much better time coming from Dingle.

You may can do it, but part of the fun in Ireland is stopping on the side of the roads and looking at the sites. We spent a couple of hours at the cliffs as well.

Ok I get it. Why would one pack so much into the day? Can anyone suggest a place to stay between the cliffs and Dublin? Preferrably part way back toward Dublin...

I would drive back to Galway. One of my favorite cities in the world.

I highly recommend staying in Doolin for a night (good, traditional pubs with music) but if you're looking for something in between the cliffs and Dublin you might check out Athlone. Galway would get you a little closer, but if you're only planning on using it as a place to stay there's not much point in going out of your way.

We stayed at the Seaview overlooking village, had a private car park and afternoon tea when we arrived but that was 3-4 years ago. It is great small town. Enjoy and glad you took Nancy's advice to go part way to Dublin not drive that very LONG way to Dublin.

Lew, I have a slightly different suggestion for a stopping point. The monastic ruin of Clonmacnoise isn't in the RS guide, but it is lovely, and one of the largest in Ireland. It's near Athlone, which would be another possible stop on the way east to Dublin.

We stayed at Daly's House Bed and Breakfast in Doolin: http://www.dalys-house.com/ Fantastic little b&b within walking distance of O'Conner's Pub, which is a good pub with music at night. Susan is an excellent hostess and the breakfast is amazing. Highly recommended.
