Dingle to Galway

We plan to spend 2 nights in Galway after Dingle. Is it a good idea to spend a night in between these 2 cities to avoid a long days drive. Any suggestions as to where to stay would be appreciated. Thanks,

It's a 3h45m drive from Galway to Dingle, so you could do it in one day. If you don't want to, you can stay a night in Limerick or Shannon, both of which are on the way.

When we did the drive, we took the Tarbet ferry-It saves time and you can avoid going through the Limerick area. We did this in 2002 and back then I did not keep as good of notes on how long this took to do. However, We ate breakfast in Dingle at 8:00 and arrived in Galway by dinner time. We also made stops at the Cliffs of Moher, Doolin, The Burren and a couple of small towns along the way. Looking back, we spent a lot of time out of the car sightseeing, so it did not feel like a long "driving" day. If it were me, I would probably not stop along the way.

Thank you for the suggestions. We are planning on taking the ferry and avoiding the Limerick traffic. If we do decide to stop, we may choose Doolin.

Going around through Limerick, as the first poster suggested, is listed on ViaMichelin at 3h48m. From personal experience, though, I always add 25% or so to their estimates on time. Going that way would probably take you close to five hours. Taking the ferry should save you about 45-60 min. plus the time you would have spent stuck in Limerick traffic.

We went from Dingle to Galway via the ferry. We stopped at the Cliffs of Moher on the way. That is a must see! It was an easy day. There is no reason to stay somewhere else unless there is somewhere you really want to stay.

Cathy,

It's personal preference. You could go all the way to Galway, but it is a LONG day. Absolutely have to go the ferry route. I stayed in Kilrush not too far past the ferry, but we didn't leave Dingle til noon and stopped in Tralee along the way.

Doing the Cliffs and the Burren along the way to Galway makes sense if you're interested in these sites.
