Would like to drive direct from the Dingle peninsula to Dublin with an overnight stay somewhere half way inbetween. Any ideas of what might be a good half way town to spend the night in before continuing on to Dublin. Thanks, mario
I don't know if it is halfway, but we stayed in Birr. It is a charming and very small town. The castle is not open to visitors, but the grounds and gardens are. There is a large and historic telescope there, and I believe it has been restored to use since I was there. http://www.birrcastle.com/
Birr is about 140 miles from Dingle, Dublin is about 90 miles from Birr. I have also chosen Birr as our mid-point stop for our trip next April. You could stop at Lough Gur on the way to Birr if prehistoric sites intrigue you. Near Birr is Clonmacnoise Abbey which is also included in our upcoming itinerary.
If you have the time, you could make a side trip to Kilkenny and stay the night there. It's a fun town.
Thanks for the tips. Looks like Birr will be our over night spot on the way from Dingle to Dublin. It researched the town, and it seems to be a lovely spot to visit.
Clonmacnoise is one of our favorite spots in Ireland.
