Dingle to Cliffs of Moher route

We will be leaving Dingle for the Cliffs of Moher & had decided to take the Tarbert Ferry rather than going through Limerick. Does anyone know whether it is worth it to drive over to Kilkee and up that way or just take the R483 up from Kilrush? Don't know if there's a "scenic" route from the Ferry to the cliffs.
Thanks!

Just take the coastal route. Everything is scenic in that part of Ireland.

We are thinking of going on the ferry and up along the coast as well. However, I was told that car rental insurance does not cover the vehicles while they are on the ferry, and none of the rental agencies have this coverage. Does anyone know if this is true?

There is a third alternative to the ferry or drive through Limerick - the tunnel under the Shannon just west of Limerick.

It was reported here recently that Hertz covers cars while on the ferry. You could also check with Irish companies like Irish Car Rentals.

When I called Hertz, the representative I spoke with said Hertz did insure vehicles on the ferry. When I spoke with the Auto Europe representative, he said Hertz is one of the main companies they use, and they don't insure vehicles on the ferry. I'm wondering which rep is misinformed. What is buried in the fine print of rental car contracts?
