Dingle Peninsula Day Tour from Cork

We are staying in Cork for 3 nights without car and would like to see the Dingle Peninsula. Can anyone recommend a private tour guide to take us to Dingle Peninsula area or a good tour group that is affordable. Prefer private guide than a tour bus. Traveling with two children ( 4 and 9 ) Thanks for any recommendations!

Hi Faith, I don't know of any tour companies but that is a really long day. From Cork to Dingle is about 2 1/2 hours! There's lots to see in the area that's a lot closer. A car does make touring much easier though... Enjoy

My wife and I hired a private tour/car in Dingle-Bill Ryan- recommended by the folks at Castlewood House where we stayed. It was wonderful. Bill was a charmer showing us where he lived and played in the local pub. Castlewood House was great, modern and wonderful breakfasts- I would think a good choice when traveling with children. We also took a short(2 hour) boat cruise out into the Bay of Dingle and saw the local porpoise. Great cruise and I would think the kids would enjoy it. Dingle is great town with good food, pubs with local music. Tom

I agree that Dingle is gorgeous just doesn't make sense as a day trip. Would tour closer to Cork such as Cobh, Kinsale, or Killarney. Also a half day to Fota Wildlife Park as a treat for the child is a great couple of hours. Or base in Killarney and day trip to Dingle and Cork. Enjoy

Thanks so much for the tips! I'm agreeing with you on Dingle being a long day for our family even though I want so badly to see it the other closer towns may just be a better day.

Any link to find Bill Ryan. Maybe he could do a tour of Cobh, Kinsale, etc. with us.

Hi Faith, Cobh is on the train route so very easy to access from Cork. Fota is on the way if you want a treat for the kids. Kinsale is on the bus route from Cork so also easy to visit. For your next holiday to Ireland you can plan your time around Kerry (very easy to fill a week just there!) have a great trip!

Faith, Bill Ryan is a local Dingle person and I believe he just does tours of the Dingle Peninsula- but e-mail the folks at Castlewood House as they would know how to contact him. Tom

Thanks so much everyone! I appreciate the good honest feedback. Think I'll stay closer to Cork for this trip.
