Dingle or Rings of Kerry?

Ok..... I am trying to firm up our honeymoon itinerary. We have prepurchased a Ring of Kerry tour, but have read and heard that Dingle is better? Here is my question. Is there enough time to do both in one day? Should I do a day in Dingle and a day on the Rings of Kerry? Should I do both? HElppppp. Thanks RC

One is not better than the other. They are very different, and both enjoyable in their own way. Since you have the time, take a day for each.

If you have the time, do both. If you only have time for one, pick Dingle and spend the night there so you can listen to traditional music in one or more pubs.

Definitely do both. If you only do one, you will always wonder what you missed but that could be your excuse to go back for your anniversary. You asked if you can do both in one day, guess it is possible, have you contacted the tour company and see what they say, do they do both in one day?

Thanks for the reply Gail.... I saw Downingtown! I grew up in West Chester.. Went to high shool there and college... So thanks again. We prepaid for the ring of kerry tour and I think we are now going to add Dingle to it as well. RC

Small world, eh? We were in a tiny town in Ireland few years ago talking with young couple next to us. One thing led to the other and the young man said he had only been to states once to visit friend who was in college here, guess where? West Chester University. You will love Ireland. If you need any help, send me a PM and will do what I can to help.

Sounds like you've decided to add Dingle in. The only thing you might regret is not having more time there! If you're going to stay the night, I would recommend Brownes B&B, in the Pink house on the hill, within walking distance of town but just outside of it. Camilla is a lovely lady and makes an amazing breakfast to boot! (try the porridge with baileys and the salmon) Oh and the view out the window is of Dingle Bay. We went there for our 5th wedding anniversary and it was as romantic as we could have wished.

If it were me, I would absolutely not do both in 1 day - with drive and exploration time, it would be near impossible. We did Dingle and not Ring of Kerry, and I can say we don't regret it. I know many people love Ring of Kerry, but we chose to spend more time in Dingle to get to know the town a bit more. To me, rushing is the surest way to ruin a holiday. Enjoy your time.

Make the the time to do both, because they will offer you two entirely different experiences. I did R of K on my first trip to Ireland. It was a beautiful clear day and was a totally amazing experience. We spent the night in Waterville. In 2008 we spent 3 days in Dingle, another amazing experience. Stayed at the Lighthouse B & B with a breaktaking view of Dingle Bay.

I haven't been to the Ring of Kerry, but Dingle was very enjoyable in August. The music scene is great -- both ballads and traditional instrumental.

I preferred Dingle, but the Ring is nice too. For Dingle prep, rent the movie Ryan's Daughter, which was mostly filmed there.

Thanks everyone!! I think we are going to do both! WE will be in Killarney for two nights and Kinsale for two nights, so I am going to make time. We had already paid for the R.O.K tour, so the quandry was Dingle or No Dingle HAHA.... The verdict is in and Dingle will be a part of our honeymoon. Thanks again for everyones help. This site has been great help.... RC
