My husband and I are spending the Christmas holiday in Dublin. We're also considering driving around the Dingle Peninsula, but we're wondering if it's still worth doing in December? Or is this area best saved for a spring/fall trip?
IMHO, it is best saved for Summer. Two words: wind; and rain. When you do go to Dingle, be sure to visit the Blasket Island Cultural Center. They have done an excellent job sharing the culture and history.
We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 nights in Dingle mid-Nov last year; friendly, green and beautiful scenery!. It wasn't cold, but misty rains are pretty common anywhere in Ireland; they come and go; it didn't prevent us from doing anything, though. Dingle was our favorite place and IMO needs at least 2 days to explore the peninsula. Dingle is quite a ways from Dublin, though, and after the long drive you might not want to do any more that day (and it will get dark by about 4 PM). So you'd want at least 3 nights. It is probably even more beautiful in Spring and Fall, but is likely much busier, also. Enjoy your Holiday!
