I'm in the early stages of planning my trip to Ireland in the spring. I prefer to stick with public transportation whenever possible. Is the Dingle peninsula going to be problematic without a rental car?
I've been to Southwest Ireland twice and both times rented a car. When I go again, I'll take the bus. You can walk to anything in town and take a tour of the peninsula, where transportation is provided. Rick recommends a tour but there are several. Last May, we called a guide, he picked us up and gave my wife and I a tour. I haven't finalized anything yet but the bus runs from Shannon Airport to Killarney and from Killarney to Dingle. You might check the bus schedule (it's on the internet). Good luck and have a great trip!
