I am trying to finalize my itinierary to Ireland, and I have a question. We have time to do both the Ring of Kerry and the Dingle Peninsula; however, I have heard they are very similar, and a lot of people prefer Dingle. Since we have time would you do both, or just one? If so, what do people prefer? Also, we are driving, so I'm a little nervous about the roads on the Ring of Kerry. Thanks for your help and input!
Have done both two times each and Dingle is our very favorite. We drove from Adare through Tralee over the Connor Pass to Dingle. It is not for the faint of heart but we loved it and we are two women in our fifties. I would suggest you rent an automatic car, it might cost more but is worth it. From Dingle, we went to Ring but only the western part, through Ladies View and onto Sneem, a lovely town. Enjoy, it is beautiful. WE stayed at the Lighthouse in Dingle, at the top of the town but had private car part an could walk into town. Enjoy.
I have also driven both and prefer the Dingle Peninsula. I would suggest staying 2 nights so you have a full day to drive it. Dingletown is a neat town to stay in.
They are both lovely areas. Since you have the time, why not do both on this trip so you can decide for yourself which YOU prefer.? I would also recommend the Gap of Dunloe jogging car / return by boat trip for a change from driving and a chance to see some very starkly beautiful scenery.
Thanks for all of the great suggestions. Since we have the time, I think we are going to do both...form an opinion, so we know for next time. I appreciate everyone's help and input!
