Different set of cliffs

I thought I remember someone mentioning some cliffs other than the Cliffs of Moher that were located, maybe not in Northern Ireland, but at least north of the Cliffs of Moher. Does anyone know what I'm asking about? I've been to the Cliffs of Moher, and while amazing, was thinking of trying something else. Thanks for your help!

We visited the Slieve League cliffs in Donegal a few weeks ago. They are a few miles past Killybegs and not at all commercialized. I believe they are actually higher than the Cliffs of Moher.

Cynthia, I believe that is exactly what I was thinking about. Besides being higher than the Cliffs of Moher and not as commercialized, would you recommend one over the other? Thanks very much for your help.

They are higher than the Cliffs of Moher, but less dramatic. I prefer the Cliffs of Moher, but both are beautiful. You can see some good pics of them on Wikipedia.

Hello Dan, We did not visit the Cliffs of Moher. We had originally planned to visit them. However, we visited the Giant's Causeway and were really turned off by the crowds and the commercialism. Our B and B host in Donegal, who regularly travels around Ireland, told us that the tourist scene at the Causeway was nothing compared to the way the Cliffs of Moher had been commercialized. So, we decided to skip them - as it turned out it rained anyway that day! We didn't go there, but have heard there are also good cliffs at Loop Head, County Clare. If you decide to go to Slieve League, don't be fooled by the first gate which is closed. It is a sheep gate and isn't locked. You can drive through and continue to a second gate which is locked - saves you about a mile of walking. We were there on a chilly, windy day in April - had the place mostly to ourselves.
I don't know if you like megalithic sites, but Beltony Stone Circle near Raphoe was beautiful and remote.

Not as huge as the Cliffs of Moher but I liked Sheep's Head
Way. Cliffs and Lighthouse in County Cork.

I've been to both the Cliffs of Moher and Slieve League and they're both worth your time as they're completely different. The Cliffs of Moher are sheer (straight up and down) whereas Slieve League is a gradual climb. Slieve League seems more remote than the touristy Cliffs.

When I was at Slieve League a year ago you could drive all the way up to the observation area. There were less than 20 people there at the time so crowds are definitely not a problem.
