I have been to Ireland many times but I have never been to the North. I am renting a car in Dublin and driving to Portrush. Along the way, I would like to stop in Derry to see the Troubles murals. Are the murals very far out of the way since I am driving to Portrush. The other option I have is hitting them on my way to Westport, Co. Mayo. Suggestions?? THANK YOU!!!!
I'm not good with distances and time, but I do think it is out of your way to go to Derry from Dublin if your destination is Portrush. What about visiting Belfast on your way to Portrush? There are more murals to see in Belfast. Or definitely it would make more sense to visit Derry on your way to Westport, as I believe it is right along the way. Whenever you visit Derry, I highly recommend visiting the Museum of Free Derry. They run a tour of the murals, and the tour plus museum visit is only 6 pounds if I remember correctly. The tours are led by people who lived through and experienced the Troubles, and the museum itself is very moving.
