Does anyone know how far Denny is from Edinburgh? I want to stay in Edinburgh and go to Denny as a day trip, but I will not have a car. I am wondering if it's possible to take a bus or train from Edinburgh to Denny and make it back to Edinburgh the same day. Thanks in advance.

Denny's about 35 miles from Edinburgh, so not too far. Kate probably has a better handle on this, but you'd likely take a train to Falkirk, then switch to a local bus that runs to Denny. Doable, for sure. Check rail connections at www.nationalrail.co.uk. Trip by train takes about half an hour, and there are a couple of trains per hour. "Firstbus" is probably the local service provider from Falkirk to Denny.

The best way to check travel options is Traveline: http://www.travelinescotland.com/
It would indicate the by train (to Cameron) and then bus, it takes a little over an hour from Edinburgh to Denny. Probably best to leave after the morning rush hour on the train, both because it's cheaper and to avoid standing for most of the trip.
