Denmark - Tivoli

With limited time in Copenhagen (3 full days), would you recommend a trip to Tivoli? Would you spend an afternoon there or just an evening? Theme parks would not normally be on our list of sites, but it seems to be recommended in every guidebook and looks like it can be a uniquely Danish experience.

Thanks for the thoughts.

Tivoli makes a nice evening. We were only there once, but we enjoyed it. It is not you typical American amusement park- the rides are very old fashioned- more like a fair. The resturants and very nice and the park is pretty.

I was just in Copenhagen last week, and would recommend Tivoli. We did 3 days in the city as well, and Tivoli is easy to fit in. It is centrally located to all the main sights in Copenhagen, and you can do it in 2-3 hours (depends if you have dinner there and take in some of the free entertainment on the various stages). A lot smaller and compact compared to North American amusement parks, but very pretty and nicely laid out. Go around 6pm so you can see it in daylight, but still be there when the sun goes down and the park lights up.

I found Tivoli wonderful right around sunset. Loved taking pictures around the lake right at that beautiful hour. I wouldn't spend a whole afternoon there, but I think a full evening either for, or after, dinner is quite nice. I would agree that it is not a typical theme park and just wandering around without going on any rides is really well worth the effort, especially as there's not that much else to do in the evening per se. And then once the sun goes down, it gets all lit up and is equally as beautiful. Definitely worth it!

When will you be there? We were there in July, and the crowds were terrible. Still, I think it would be worth it to go in the evening; it's a lovely park and a nice place to walk around. Just expect crowds if you go in the summer.

I found the entrance a little pricey considering you just walk around. Realize ther eare not alot of big draws in Copenhagen so naturally tourist boards would advert what they do have. I would rather walk arounfd Palace or Nyhaven for authentic Danish expereince.
