I know they're on opposite sides of Copenhagen, but do you think its possible to see both cities on the same day by train without being super rushed? I only have 4 days in Copenhagen so I am trying to maximize my time.
Thanks in advance!

I'm planning the area now (but haven't done the trip yet). I think both can be done in a fast paced half day, including train travel. It will be rushed but if that's all the time you have available...
I would choose Roskilde first, since you will want to see the museum and cathedral and will need them to be open. Helsingor town can be seen without worrying about hours and you can always catch a later train back to Copenhagen. Rick says Helsingor castle is better from the outside, so worse case scenario you may miss the inside of the castle. Personally, I'll bring a flashlight and hope for a chance to use it at Kronborg.
I'll seperate the two trips into different days. The plan now is to spend a morning in Helsingor then continue north and spend the afternoon at the beach.
I'll also visit Roskilde early. I haven't decided what to do with the remainder of the day.
If you just want to get two sights into one day. It might be easier to add Frederiksborg Castle in Hillerod from Helsingor.
You could also choose a ferry to Sweden from Helsingor then train to Malmo and back to Copenhagen across the bridge.
Neglecting the train logistics, about which I know nothing, I think it would be hard as heck to do both in th same day.
The ship musemum and the grounds with the other associated stuff keep me busy for a good three or four hours and I've been there several times (but I'm an old boat freak). The cathedral could eat up another hour, easily.
Neglecting the rest of Helsingor, Kronborg is minimally a two-hour project, more if you haven't seen a lot of castles. If you have seen a bunch of others, you'll just scurry around seeing what's different and see how the defenses were designed to work and be on your way....which brings up the temptation to hop over to Helsinborg.
I'd probably tackle the problem in two separate half-days. That will give you the balance of those days plus the two full days for Copenhagen; which is plenty since things like Nyhaven and Tivoli are best done at night anyway.
