Ribe for the watchman's tour and Roskilde for a ride on the viking ships. Legoland (Billund) adds only about an hour to the drive between the two, but I've only seen it from the road. The harbor tours at Copenhagen (Nyhavn) ought to interest the little buggers as well.

Thanks Ed. Do you know of any beach areas or villages with easy access from Copenhagen. We are traveling with a two and three year old.

Ack! Those are short kids, I was thinking probably a bit older. My first thoughts stink except for maybe the boat ride. Living where I do, I'd be shot if I were caught on anybody else's beach but: - Amager Beach is closest to Copenhagen and maybe a couple hundred yards from a metro stop. I went out there once and it was crowded in spots and empty in other places. I'm pretty sure that was in the summer. - There's a small town up the coast north of Helsingor called Hornbaek. That'd make it about twenty-five miles from Copenhagen. I have no idea how to get there except by car, but I can remeber it has a train station. I was more interested in the marina, but there's a nice looking beach on the west side of the seawall. The village is interesting and really tidy - - about what you'd expect. We wound up spending the night there and didn't regret it. My only other thought for kids is Tivoli Gardens. Some of the rides wouldn't work, but others (the little electric boats on the lake) would with adult supervision. With luck, an outdoor performance (you can wander in and out) might hold their interest for a while. There's also a small aquarium. Best of all, there's enough color and motion all over the place so that they can run around and explore. Somebody else can probably come up with better ideas.

Just to second what Ed said. Copenhagen does have a boat tour of the city which would be good. I'm not sure what their science museum is like but you can check out their website. There are a lot of positive reviews on Trip Advisor. www.experimentarium.dk/index.php%3Fid...
