Denis Sever's House

I'm thinking of going to this house during their evening presentation. I'll be alone, and was wondering if getting there/going is safe in the evening (8ish I assume at the latest) for a single female? Also, and tips on how early to get there (in Sept).

Cheers!

Laurel - perhaps a little more information would help. Where is Denis Severn's house? Googling it only brings up your request!

Laurel - you were almost right the first time with the name!

Have not been to the house (shame on me!)so can't help with the journey to get there, sorry. But have a look at the area on Google Streetview. It is mostly a business area so will be quiet outside of business hours but would hesitate to say unsafe.

If someone does not come up with personal experience/advice, try the Transport for London's journey planner. It will give you all the public transport options

We went to the house several years ago, it is in an okay neighborhood. We were fairly early and so had a couple of drinks at a pub down the street.

the house is fantastic and should not be missed. If you are inclined ot, pick up the book. We were told it was available in the states, it wasn't.

It is Dennis Severs. It is in the East End in theWhitechapel area. It can be a bit eerie at night (Jack the ripper area!) but I didnt feel in harms way at any time, just felt a bit uneasy. Keep your handbag close to you and wear a money belt.

Laurel,

I just got back from London last week. Just like you I was a little nervous about going to Denis Sever's House alone. Don't be! Folgate Street is about five blocks down from Liverpool Station. It is very easy to find. When I went, the night tour started at 7P.M. It didn't get dark until 10P.M, so no problem. I don't know what time it will get dark in September, however. You can check at the Weather Underground to be sure. Great web site. There is a nice pub (with good Waldorf salad) catty corner to Denis Severs. If you are at all worried, you could call a cab from the pub. I found the staff to be very friendly. Denis Severs House is great and the mystery is so much fun to figure out! Don't miss it!

Laurel: We went at Christmas, it was dark, looked scary but was perfectly safe. It is Waterloo station via the Tube and then a brief walk. In general London is safe. Just don't carry around thousands of pounds! Just find it on Google maps and follow the directions. It's well worth doing.
