Do you have any suggestions as to where to eat?
It seems that the Book of Kells will not be available- what else to see?
Shopping on Grafton St and at St Stephens Green Shopping Centre, Kilmainham Gaol, the National Museums, the tour 29 Georgian House, at 29 Fitzwilliam St, the Temple Bar area.
Messrs. Maguire's at the end of the O'Connell St bridge has good food, as does Bewley's on Grafton St. If you want something a little different try the Bad Ass Cafe in Temple Bar - great pizza!
I took the 1916 walking tour this summer and am a HUGE fan of it. I'd definitely recommend that, if it's running, there's information in Rick's book on it. The churches should be open (Christchurch, St. Patrick's).
For dinner, we like Gallagher's Boxty House in the Temple Bar.
Someone correct me if I am wrong but with Christmas coming on a Friday will not most places will be closed until Monday or at least Sunday?
Well that is a good question that I am trying to which I have tried to find answers-- some are open. Restaurants are open, most shops.
Something that may be going on on Sundays, depending on the weather, is watching pick-up games in Phoenix Park. Lots of soccer and cricket, I hear there's hurling there, too, but we didn't see any.
This year a lot of the major department stores will be open on Dec 26th. If you can get out to the the Seamus Ennis Centre in the Naul in North County Dublin on St. Stephans day you will experience an true Irish Celtic Pagan ritual with the Mummers hunting the Wren on their tour of North \county Dublin.
Failing that you can settle for a boxty in my restaurant in Temple Bar but I will be chasing the wren.
Enjoy your visit to Dublin and Ireland.
