We are interested in doing a day trip or 2 from Dublin to the Wicklow Mountain area. I've looked into Over the Top Tours or Rail Tours. Can anyone recommend these or any others? Also, do you think we should book a tour that includes a stop at Powerscourt or is that missable?
I have done tours to the Wicklow area with Bus Eireann and Rail Tours and they both were fine. You might take a look at Wild Wicklow Tours I have not been on any of their tours but I know several people who have enjoyed them.
As for Powerscourt a great deal depends on the time of the year. As to be expected there are many more flowers in spring and summer than later in the year.
We took the www.WildWicklow.ie tour to Glendalough a few years back and enjoyed the day. They have a separate tour that goes to Powerscourt. I've been there, but not with a tour. It's very nice, but not as special or unique as Glendalough, in my opinion.
I took a day trip with Wild Wicklow Tours to Glendalough and the Wicklow Mountains this past March. I would definitely recommend it, and enjoyed the tour very much. I only wished for more time to spend at Glendalough!
I took the Bus Eireanne tour from Dublin that went to powerscourt gardens, glendalough and wicklow mountain national park and absolutely loved it. In 7 weeks of Ireland it was one of my favorite tours. It was a great mix of getting off the bus and scenery. I really liked the powerscourt gardens so I would suggest this tour.
