We are planning a week's stay outside of Dublin in Dalkey. The accommodations for the week in Dalkey have been provided free of charge. We are interested, however, in taking day trips while we're there. Any suggestions for places either by car or public transportation?
If you scroll down through the listings in the North section, you'll find lots of recent discussion about day trips in the Dublin area. There is something interesting to see in any given direction from Dublin. You might also check your local library or bookstore for "Daytrips: Ireland" by Patricia Preston. It lists 11 different day trips in and around Dublin, complete with maps, phone numbers, and loads of other information.
Lucky you Melissa. Dalkey is a wonderful little place. You could spend a day or two there checking out the sights.
Thanks for all of the suggestions, everyone!
Newgrange is a fantastic old site north of Dublin. It is older than the pyramids, and appears to be a site of rituals of some sort. Fascinating history.
I confess to not knowing where Dalkey is located. But, another daytrip from Dublin is the ruined monastic city at Glendalough.
