Day trip to Paris and Meeting in Southeast England

OK - we are traveling to London 3rd week of September and on our last day in London I am going to take a day trip to Paris while my traveling companion - who has been to Paris - is going to travel and see Southeast England like Canterbury maybe all the way to Dover. I would appreciate any thoughts on a couple of things: does anyone have a recommendation for a good tour for Paris? Lots of companies and I want to see as much as possible in one day but would not mind a bit of free time to shop :-) . Second, I am going to meet up with my travel partner somewhere in SE England and will travel to another station after arriving at St. Pancras (departure and return point for Paris as I understand it). Does anyone have a recommendation for where we should meet and the train system to take to get there? Would like to make it as efficient as possible and my partner has the freedom to plan a route to end where he wants so we were thinking Folkstone or Canterbury. Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

Kelly This is likely to be a very tight schedule, but assuming you really want to do it you have a couple of options. The quickest is to get off the train back from Paris at Ashford International. That's only an hour and 40 minutes from Paris and you can then get to Canterbury West in 20 minutes. The alternative is to go back to St Pancras, which is two hours and 40 minutes from Paris. From St Pancras the train takes an hour, more or less, to Canterbury. The first of these is obviously the better bet but may prove more expensive as it involves getting single tickets to and from Paris. Could you and your companion not go down to Canterbury the evening before? You could then get a return from Ashford to Paris and also gain an hour in Paris as your journey time would be quicker. Alan
