Day trip to Cotswolds tomorrow (Tuesday)

We rented a car today, and plan on a full day visiting the Cotswolds. I have already gone by bus to Burton-on-the-water & Moreton-on-marsh. Liked Burton better with the river. This evening we took off by car and visited Burford & Bibury. The latter was gorgeous. Tomorrow we want to spend the entire day in the Cotswolds, but I would like some feedback from those of you who have visited all the towns (or most), and get your recommendations. Is Chipping Campden worth a longer stop? I see that most tour buses give extra time there. We'd like to take some walks, check out the scenery and maybe stop for a meal.

I was going to suggest Snowhill Manor near Broadway but it seems to closed on Tuesdays. If you have time another day...it was one of the highlights of my Cotswolds Trip. You really can't go wrong if you look up any of the National Trust Properties as a destination.

Hi, we are only keeping the car for one day. Hubby returns to the US on Wednesday, and I am way too chicken to drive here! I've been reading about the different areas online. Unfortunately, my connection is slower than molasses at times. We want to see some of the thatched roof houses/buildings (like the photos!), if they still exist. Do you know if these are in Chipping Campden?

Hi Eli, you should see Broadway it's beautiful. Two villages that has thatched roofs are Bledington which is a little south of Stow-on-the-Wold.....and Great Tew which is between Moreton-in-the-Marsh and Chipping Norton.

Great Tew is wonderful... little tiny village looks like a fair tale. Great soup at the pub! Also Chipping Camden for great Cream Tea in the Tea House on the main street. Broadway is also a personal favorite and just driving around and following the signs to the next town is fun. You should try the driving (its easier than you think ...especially out in the Cotswolds) There was also an outstanding Italian Restaurant in Chipping Camden just down the street from the tea room... we ate there two night in a row...

The area near Stow on the Wold: Stow, Upper and Lower Slaughter, Upper and Lower Swell, is a great area to roam around in. And all fairly close togther. Stow has shops, restaurants and hotels. You have already been to my other favorites Burford and bibury. Chipping Camden is the largest village with a long main street and a very interesting wool market in the midle of the street. Tour busses probably spend time here as it would be conveneint for a lunch or tea break. The fun part of Cotswolds is just following all the little roads and getting lost (Editted to correct some weird formatting)

We did get lost and had to turn around several times, lol You all were right though. A car is a necessity! I can see why no one would recommend using public transport. There is too much to see and do, and the public buses just don't go by often enough, and definitely not to every village. We had a wonderful day. Thanks for the help. Today was also hubby's birthday. What a memorable way to spend getting another year older, right? We did have cream tea in Chipping Campden :-) Somehow did not find Broadway, so next time.

Eli, glad to hear that you had a great day...and yes, a great way to spend a birthday. Sad to hear you didn't find Broadway, but like you said next time.
