Day trip from Dublin.....

With Dubin as a homebase where could I go to see great irish countyside? Rolling green pastures, rock fences, etc. Thanks for the help!

The Boyne River valley would be your best best, though you won't see stone fences there as much as you will on the west coast of Ireland. Boyne River valley is home to Newgrange and Knowth, sites of ancient tombs. On the other side of Dublin, you could take a day trip to the Wicklow Mountains and Glendalough.

In the same situation, I chose a BusEiren(?) trip to the Boyne Valley. You'll see the Hill of Tara, Newgrange, Boyne battlefield and Trim castle. Another option by the same bus company goes to Glendalough Abbey, IMO that was a close second to the Boyne Valley as the best daytrip out of Dublin. You can buy your tickets at the bus station in Dublin. We bought ours the day before but it can be done at the time of departure with no reservations depending on how busy it is.

If you're looking for a beautiful spot Powerscourt is well worth a day trip, hop on the DART south to Bray and close by there's a bus stop that goes to Powerscourt (check for availability in the off season) it's absolutely gorgeous and well worth the trip.
