We will be staying overnight in bath and were thinking og spending a few hours in what is the best way to get there how long will it take and can we get a train back to London from there
We went from Bath to Lacock by bus. Bath to Chippenham (about half an hour); Chippenham to Lacock (10 minutes). No train at Lacock. You need to go back to Chippenham. trains from Chippenham to London seem very frequent taking less than one and a half hours. Train from Bath to Chippenham is stated to be less than a qureter hour, however we enjoyed the bus ride, got to see some little villages along the way
Hi Brian Thanks for the info. Did you go anywhere else in Cotswold area that you would recommend. is it easy to go from town to town?
Cotswolds are just not practical without a car. there are very few busses and almost no trains. (a Cotswolds touring site mentions some villages get one bus a day, or maybe even one a week). The village with most bus routes is Stow on the Wold; it is probably practical to go from Chippenham to Stow on one bus route then out to another, but that would take careful planning and a whole lot of studying bus schedules and luck We usually do Cotswolds by car. The Mad Max tours to Cotswolds from Bath are highly regarded by many on this site and would probably be the reecom, ended solution Stow on the wold and Burford are among recommended villages which I believe have some bus service.
