Day tour to Stonehenge, Bath and Windsor Castle

My family with 2 teenagers would like to take a one day tour to these three places in mid July. Do you know a good company to use? And is it a good idea to to book a tour to the Tower of London and if so, which company?

Dorothy, that's a lot to cover in a one day tour, especially since you'll have to include travel times as well. I'm assuming you'll be travelling there from London?

One possibility might be the half day tour of Stonehenge and Lacock with Mad Max Tours. They depart from Bath, so you could stop there for a few hours as well. Check their web site for details and prices.

Happy travels!

I'm sorry I can't help you with a tour, but I would agree that you'll never find one with all three places. I think you'd have more luck finding a tour to Bath and Stonehenge. Bath is easy to reach by train and I know there are tours to Stonehenge from Bath, so that is another option.

I don't know why you would need a tour for the Tower of London. It's easy to see on your own.

Hi Dorothy, you can contact Golden Tours phone number (0) 844 880 6981 and/or ~~~~~~http://www.goldentours.co.uk/ They do day tours that go to Windsor, Bath and Stonehenge. They have a tour that doesn't include lunch and one the does include lunch at a pub. Hope this helps you.

Just wanted to make myself clear, the Golden Tour I mentioned in my post above it a one day tour, one tour that goes to all three places that you want to go to. I have been on some of their tours and they are good. Go and enjoy.

Evans Evans does that exact trip. We took it about 10 years ago- it also included stonehenge. Also check with Rickards tours.

My sisters and I took that day tour with Evan Evan's last year and we enjoyed it. Can't help you with the Tower of London, sorry.

The Tower is never a problem. The Yeoman Warders give tours all day long. Even if you could find a tour to take you to Stonehenge, Bath AND Windsor Castle in one day, the time alloted would do justice to none of them. The day trip to Stonehenge then Bath (Evans Evans) is a good one. Fair warning though, it will only make you want to go back to Bath and spend more time. Windsor and Windsor Castle deserve their own day out.

So, if I had one day what is the best one (ones) to do - can Bath and Windsor castle be too much for a day?

Hi Dorothy,

I was in Bath in May. We had planned to go to Stonehenge, but cut it out of the itinerary becaue we were having so much fun in Bath. The locals explained that Stonehenge is actually roped off, so you can only see it from a distance anyway. We figured that we would probably be just as satisfied seeing a professional photograph.

Bath is a fun city. I highly recommend spending a couple of hours in the thermae mineral baths. Be sure to bring your "proper swimmers" for that.

Enjoy!

Well, you have enough input on the 3 in one day tour. On the Tower of London, "London walks" has a two hour tour. This company has great walks on everything in London. We decided to go on our own but a guided tour gives more meaning to places sometimes. Whatever you do, also do the 30 minute Yeoman warders tour.

I've been to all 3 locations but for a one day trip I'd take the train to Windsor via Slough then tour the castle, town and return about 4:45p to line up for Evensong then a nice dinner across the street at "The Hare & Garter" (very good Yorkshire Pudding!!)

My daughter always wanted to see Stonehenge and it was the highlight of our first visit to England. Go with what you most want to see -- ancient stone structure that no one has really figure out how was built? Roman baths & Georgian rooms? Do a family caucus. And I agree that the (free, once you pay admission) Beefeater tour is perfectly adequate for the Tower of London. Go early or you'll spend a lot of time in line.

We did a Golden Tours trip (with 2 teenagers) to Salisbury, Stonehenge and Bath in one day. I think they also had a Windsor Castle, Stonehenge and Bath trip. But I will second the comment that you don't have enough time in each place. We knew that ahead of time, but didn't realize how little time at sights vs driving time this itinerary would mean.

Stonehenge is roped off, but you can still see it very well. Only had a half hour there, though, which was frustrating. Bath also, was limited to a couple of hours focused on the Roman Baths. So basically you get a taste of things on these tours, and then on your next trip, you'll know where you want to return for an in depth visit!
