Day Tour London to Paris

My sister will be in London in a couple of weeks. She'd like to see Paris, but doesn't speak French, and hasn't traveled a lot. Is there a good tour company that would do a day trip to/from Paris from London? Or even that would meet her at Gare du Nord from the Eurostar, do a tour, and then drop her back at the Eurostar?

If you (or she) will google "day tours london to paris" you will find several companies who do such tours. It would be much cheaper to do it independently and one needn't be able to speak French, but at this late date getting a cheap ticket on the Eurostar is impossible. But for future reference, buying the Eurostar ticket way ahead of time and then taking the hop-on/hop-off bus, which stops right outside of the Gare du Nord, the Eurostar station, would be the way to do it.

We did a tour with EvansEvans years ago (not long after the chunnel opened). It is a very quick tour of Paris with a couple of hours to yourself. We wanted to see the Louve- wouldn't you know it- they went on strike one hour before we were to get to it :( !!! We had the option of regular or first class tickets- don't go first class. The "free" meals weren't worth the extra cost.

I love Paris too much not to put this out there. That would be torture to me! Paris for a day! Does your sister realize that it is a 2 hr ride each way, with an hour ahead check in, so 6 hrs of transit time, minimum?
Just my 2¢....

There is really no reason to go to Paris from London and come back the same day. You're spending half your time in transit. Why not spend the night in Paris? That way at least you can enjoy Paris at the best time, at night.

I say go for it! Ideally one should spend more than a day in a world class city like Paris, but sometimes it's fun to do crazy things while on vacation. Watch the movie Before Sunset, it's proof positive that one can have a rewarding single day in Paris;)

Go for it if all you can spare is 1 day but it's worth at least an overnight if it's possible. Paris is magical!

Another vote for trying to carve out an overnight stay. The travel can be kind of tiring, and seeing Paris while rushed and groggy would be less than ideal. Still, if that is the only alternative, I say go for it! Paris truly IS as great as all the fuss about it would have you believe.

I just got back from a 19 day trip- London, Paris and Dublin. I only spent 5 days in Paris, and it was nowhere near enough. Is it possible for her to do more than a day? Seems a shame to miss all the wonderful things there.... If not, have her pick what she really must see- the train travel time will really limit the actual time she has to see things....

If you have only one day all the more reason for doing a 'guided' day tour in order to get the most out of the experience. We booked a London/Paris/London day tour through Golden Tours. It was pretty frenetic, but worthwhile.

Paris is a day....almost impossible...We left London on Friday night and left Paris on Sunday late around 5pm. got an early start on saturday...saw the highlights of the Louve, Notre Dame, Eifel tower, and the Orsay...It was my first time to Paris. I think I could do better the second time around but to see all of that in one day would be a killer....You need some time just to sit at a cafe and take in the Paris around you. We stayed on Rue Cler a great location to get around paris from.

We would recomend Gray Line tours. They do day tours for London and Paris. They are a great company. You can book the tours on-line here in the U.S. or after you have gotten to particular cities. I advise you to book the Euorsatar as soon as possible. It fills up QUICKLY. We learned the hard way last year. Elaine

It doesn''t take much in the way of instructions: you get on a train, get off and look around, then get back on. Just because something can be done doesn't necessarily mean it should be done. The train's a couple and a half hours each way, making it at least six hours hotel-to-hotel, seven is probably closer - - plus you have to fit in some food somewhere. That pretty much makes the day half logistics and half looking around - - plus you'll be pooped the next day. A couple cautions about the 'RS Instructions'. They involve a two mile walk. They criss-cross from one end of Paris to the other.

We did a day trip from Paris to London on our second international trip, and it was fabulous! We got our Eurostar tickets before we left home, so that may be an issue on late notice. We took taxis to make the most efficient use of our time. We saw Notre Dame, Sainte-Chapelle, the Arc de Triomphe, Louvre, went up the Eiffel Tower, walked the entire Champs Elysees, ate lunch at a small cafe, and ate a picnic dinner in the shadow of the Eiffel Tower. We didn't feel rushed at all, although we were careful to pace ourselves and stick to the schedule. Granted, we aren't huge art lovers, so we didn't spend a lot of time at the Louvre, but I feel like we saw the other sites in their entirety. If you only have one day, I recommend this day trip. We plan to go back in the future to see more of Paris, but this was a wonderful introduction. Following Rick Steve's guidebook made it simple and enjoyable, even for novice travelers.
