Darlington Hyde Park Hotel, London

Does anyone have any experience with this hotel? It gets good marks on TripAdvisor, but I'd like to know if anyone on the Helpline has any comments. I'm trying to decide between the Darlington and the Lime Tree.

I can't speak to either hotel, but we like staying in the Victoria area. Lots of good resturants/pubs, shopping at the station, easy access to the tube, buses, and trains. I have read that some feel the Lime Tree is overpriced. Others on this board have suggessted several alternatives for the Victoria/Belgrave area in previous posts.

Thanks, Toni. I've never really been impressed with the Victoria area and tend to stay near Paddington/Lancaster Gate or in Bloomsbury. But, like most things, Victoria has probably changed quite a lot since the last time I wandered through there (which, come to think of it, was almost certainly sometime in the mid-90s!).

The Darlington Hyde Park is one of the best quality small independent hotels in London that is not a luxury boutique style setup.
Its basically a Bed & Breakfast with no services. However its legions of fans who wouldn't stay anwhere else go becuase of the high quality staff and service and the exemplarly maintenance of hotel and rooms. A lot of single women stay there because they feel secure there.
However, because its so popular you do pay a premium for this - around 90-120 GBP for a double with breakfast. (It is possible to get rooms in the neighbouring Hilton Metropole or Novotel Paddington for this. ) The Lime Tree in Victoria is OK but compared to the Darlington dosen't meet its standards and offers poor value. In Victoria I would point you towards the Luna & Simon B&B - if you read the Tripadvisor reviews you'll see why.
