Need some tips on doing tours on your own for Tallinn, Estonia, Stocklhom and Helsinki.. love to branch out on our own and see all of the sights.. dont want to miss anything. any help would be great... is it doable on your own?
Hi Becky, this is not much of a cruise board, altho many are cruisers and Rick has just written a book on Euro ports. You might wish to check on cruisecritic.com forum, where there are roll calls for each cruise by ship and date. Also, yes, you can do tours or shore excursions on your own, and can start your research by googling the city name + shore excursion or similar. Or look at your ships tour descriptions and see how those match your own interests. Certainly you'll miss something since you only have a few hour in port, but that gives you something to revisit. Have a great trip!
Well Tallinn, Stockholm and Helsinki are easy to do on your own. Can't speak to Estonia. Tallinn is very walkable. Eat in a Russian themed restaurant and weird but try a shot of vodka (icy) served with a pickle and sour cream - you say "what???" So weird it's good. Stockholm tour the Vasa Museum (easy to get to by foot or bus), take a canal tour, visit Skansen (on a nice day). Splurge and have a real smorgasbord - who knew pickled fish in sour cream was so good. Buy a copy of Rick Steves' Scandinavia - way helpful. Stockholm's cruise port is literally in the city, Tallinn's is, if I recall correctly within walking distance and Helsinki is probably the same.
