Does anyone know if Master Card/Visa credit cards are accepted at Ireland gas stations? I understand that it can cost close to $100 to fill a tank and would rather charge the fuel and not carry cash for it.

They were accepted the last time I was there (about a year and a half ago). Depending on how long you are renting your car, though, you might not have to fill up that often. Their small cars get much better mileage than ours. I put about 1000 miles on the car and filled it once, then topped it off before returning it.

Yes, they are accepted. You might want to look into getting a Capitol One Visa card so that you don't also get socked with the extra 3% foreign transaction fee that all other cards charge.

Hi Cheryl,
I just returned from Ireland. We rented a car in Dublin and drove all the way to the Aran Islands. Everywhere we went we used our credit cards to buy gas, no problems.
