I am planning a trip to Ireland for late Sept./early Oct. and am considering Kinsale, County Cork as a home base after a few days in Dublin. I'm hoping to rent a cottage, apt. or small house. Any advice or experiences to share?
What kind of advice are you looking for? Towns? Activities? Properties? Kinsale is not very centrally located as a base, though there are some beautiful places not far from there. If you could give us a better idea of what you are asking for, we could give better advice.
Excellent point, Nancy! I was about as clear as mud. I'm interested in recommendations on which sights to see, villages to visit, points of interest (cultural activities, antique shops, flea markets, music and art venues) within "day tripping" distance of Kinsale. Thanks so much!
Rented a cottage in Kinsale in 2008 for a week. Found it great for south coast touring. Spent a day in Cork, went to Cobh where the old railway station is an enlightening and harrowing display of the hardships of emigrant to US & Canada. In the other direction, there is a lighthouse with an interesting dispale - I think it is called Mizen Head. Ft Charles in Kinsale is interesting.
