Could this itinerary work for 12 days in the UK?

Day 1: arrive in London
Day 2: London with night train to Inverness, Scotland
Days 3 - 5 in Inverness with day trips to Skye, Glencoe, Ft. William
Days 6 - 7 in Loch Lomond with a day trip to Oban
Days 8 - 10 in Edinburgh with a day trip to Stirling
Day 11: day train to London
Day 12: go home.

Natalie- Check out prices for flying USAir out of Charlotte NC. Sometimes you can get VERY good rates to London. You could either fly into Charlotte or drive. Your plan looks pretty good. Though, personally, I'd give Inverness more time and would skip Loch Lomond and Oban- that's just me.

Natalie, you could save a lot of time and money flying in and out of Dublin instead of London. Ryanair flights into Scotland are super cheap.

Our travel agent checked out every avenue for us and the Dublin round trip was top of the list. Ireland is having a pretty hard time with the economy so they're going for any tourist trade they can get.

Happy Planning!

Natalie, your proposed Itinerary looks fine, however a few questions. Since the main focus of your trip appears to be Scotland, would it be possible to find flights into either Glasgow or Edinburgh, rather than London? Your trips back and forth to London will use valuable travel time, which IMHO would be better spent sightseeing in your primary destination.

The other alternative would be open jaw flights, perhaps flying into Scotland and returning home from London or vice versa (that's what I would do under the circumstances).

I don't know what flights are available from your area, but you might want to speak with a Travel Agent.

Happy travels!

I do like the idea of open jaw flights. There are 3 other people that will be travelling with me. One wants to fly, others want the day train from Edinburgh to London and vice versa. One wants to drive through the UK. Two of the travellers haven't been to London and that is why I am trying to split up the travel and days. It's definitely hard to please everyone so I was trying to find some kind of happy medium!! :) We all seem to have different goals so I want everyone to enjoy the trip as well as make it time efficient and fun! Any other suggestions will be passed along to my fellow travellers!!! :) Thanks!!!!
