Two couples (late 50's/early 60"s) will be traveling to England April/May 2013. We have 4 day accommodations in London and are looking to rent 2BR cottage/flat in the cotswolds to take day trips from. Any experiences, comments and direction on how to proceed with rental in this area will be appreciated! Thanks
We were planning the same thing and someone on the Hotline told me about Windsor Cottage. We have not stayed there, but they highly recommended it.
Consider looking on airbnb.com. (Cotwolds United Kingdom) I've used the site when I've traveled and have been more than pleased with my varied accommodations. In fact one spot in London, if available, will ALWAYS, be my home base. Same age group as you. A quick peek on the site showed a property like this:http://www.airbnb.com/rooms/52190
Worth researching the available properties I think.
I suggest the Windsor Cottage in the town of Winchcombe but you would def. need a car. If you google vacation rentals in Cotswolds you should see plenty of options.
If you do that you should decide whether you want a cottage in one of the larger towns on the edge of Cotswolds (eg Winchcombe or Stroud) or whether you can get a cottage in the middle of one of the "pretty villages" (Burford, Bourton, Stow, slaughters etc). You definitely need to look at maps and also descriptions of the villages.
check out the National Trust Lettings (English for rentals) site http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/lettings/. They offer cottages for rent that are on the grounds of National Trust properties - stately homes, castles, ancient sites........ While I have not used them, friends have and rave about them. There are many National Trust sites in the Cotswalds so there should be some rentals (or Lets) there.
