Is there affordable & reliable transportation (train, rail, or bus) from Heathrow to the Cotswold region? I know there are trains from Paddington but would rather avoid traveling into London when we arrive and then have to turn around and travel back out the next day to get to the Cotswolds. I don't plan on renting a car. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Public transportation in the Cotswolds is limited. Do you have a specific reason for not wanting a car? Driving in that area is very easy and all the little tiny villages are opened up to you. Just a thought.
You can take a taxi from Heathrow to Slough (which is next to Windsor)and get a train to Moreton-in-Marsh..http://www.buytickets.firstgreatwestern.co.uk/combinedmatrix.aspx?Command=TimeTable...this is the website regarding the train schedule. It's an hour train ride. Slough would be the closest town to go to get the train to Moreton-in-Marsh.
Not sure about this, but check buses into the Cotswolds from Oxford. It's the nearest large city and easily reachable from Heathrow/London/Reading.
I am trying to decide exactly the same thing for our trip leaving May 21st.
You can take a bus directly from Heathrow to Oxford and a train from there to Moreton-in-Marsh.
Or you can take a series of trains from Heathrow to Moreton-in-Marsh without going into London. See this thread.
Oxford is 47 miles from Heathrow airport, going to Slough would make be a lot better it's only 9 miles from the airport and you can get a train to Moreton-in-Marsh. It's an hour and twenty minute train ride.
We did not want to drive from London either, so we just took the train out to Oxford and rented a car there. Driving there, and in the Cotswolds was very easy and having a car in that area made life much easier!
