Cornwall Home Base - St. Ives, Mousehole, or Other?

Looking at a trip to England in May, which would include about 3 nights and 2 full days in Cornwall. Looking for a location to use as a home base as we explore the area. Thoughts?

Of the places you mention, I would suggest St Ives or Looe. Both are large-ish villages with more to choose from. Consider Penzance which is a bustling little town convenient to this area. Although I love Mousehole it is defintely a one- horse town. Wonderful to visit, and lunch. They do have a very nice restaurant (and semed big enough to have rook=ms to let). One interesting village may be Clovelly on the North Coast, quite small but it has at least two different lodging facilities (may have same ownership). But its not in the area you want

Hi Steve - Cornwall is beautiful. We based in St. Ives and loved it. Clovelly is charming & beautiful but there is a killer hill! I think it is best for a short stop not a base. The Minnack theatre is spectacular and not to be missed. We both thought Cornwall was wonderful. Try to catch
"Doc Martin" before you go!

Steve, we were in Cornwall last fall and stayed in Falmouth, liked it very much. Good size with stores and restaurants and charming. However, it is on the south coast and much of what you want to see may be on the north side.

You can't go wrong with any of the places mentioned but my heart still belongs to the cute seaside town of Mevagissey.

Some good suggestions above. There is a "critical mass' in St. Ives that you don't have in Mousehole. The latter is tiny, but cute. I had a tough time getting a room in St. Ives in July, but I would think May would be no problem. If you are driving try to wend your way to Mylor Bridge on Cornwall's south coast. It is home to the Pandora Inn, one of best pubs in England. It was one of the handful "2 star" pubs in the Good Pub Guide. Excellent food in a fine setting. I assume it still has its "stars". Make sure you get a good map, it is a bit hard to find. www.pandorainn.com If you are a walker, the Southwest Coast Path is worth your time anywhere on the Cornish coast.
