Copenhagen in September

We are planning a trip (our first) to Copenhagen in September. Any tips on our first trip? Any comments on traveling there in September? Thanks for any advice!

We were there in July/August. We stayed near Nyhavn (new harbor) - which is adjacent to Kongens Nytorv (Kings new square). I like the area, and it's VERY easy to reach via Metro from the airport, about 15 minutes, faster than a train from the airport to the downtown train station. We bought Copenhagen cards at the TI in the airport, which included trains, metro, bus and some admissions/discounts throughout northern Zealand. Since check-in at our hotel was later, and we arrived early, we started by training to Roskilde to see the Cathedral and Viking Ship museum. We dropped our stuff at the downtown Copenhagen train station (left luggage in the basement); we showered and changed at the station - which might be a little on the grungy side for most American tourists.

We really enjoyed visiting Helsingor. The Kronborg castle was a good visit. If you forget to bring a flashlight for the casemates, they sell a fairly cheap souvenir flashlight in a vending machine by the entrance that works fine and is nice enough to make a decent travel flashlight. From Helsingor, we took a "private" train up to the beach on the north coast of Zealand, Hornbaeck. Even though it's called a "private" train, it's included with your Copenhagen card. Other than that we mostly visited sights in Copenhagen, which has plenty to see and do. I didn't love Tivoli Gardens but it's worth a look around (also included on the Copenhagen card). There is a restaurant there (name translates to the "ditch") that was recommended and we liked it. The herring was fresher and better than I thought possible. Three of our four people didn't try it, their mistake. We loved Rosenborg Slot (castle). It's in town, surrounded by a nice park, a good size for a quick tour (plus the crown jewels in the basement). Our one regret was not visiting Frederiksborg. They were doing work on the tracks so a trip there required either a longer train ride or a leg on a bus so we opted to skip it. Next time it'll be first on our to do list.

We spent 4 days there before a Baltic cruise. We stayed close to the main train station. Our highlights were Tivoli Gardens(four kids 16,18,30,32), The Church of our Savoir, and a private tour with Richard Karpen. The tour with Richard Karpen(in Rick Steves book) gave us a good background of the Danes and the city. The church is the one with the spiral staircase going up the outside. Awesome view of all of Copenhagen, but a little scary for us who are afraid of heights. Tivoli Gardens was just a delightful day for all of us. We also did the Castle, Treasury and Roskilla which were all enjoyable. Have a great trip.

We love Copenhagen. We stayed in Fredericksburg in an apartment we found through airbnb. We were able to walk everywhere and the apartment had bikes to use also. In addition to the other places mentioned, we enjoyed the museum downtown.
