We will be traveling to Copenhagen for a week in early April. I have been reading many sites trying to figure out a hotel to stay at. Frankly I'm getting confused with all of the reviews. I would like something fairly central to be able to walk everywhere, and plan on taking many excursions by train during the day and be back in the evening.. college student over there to see every eve. Thanks so much for any advice I can get.
Check tripadvisor.com for recommendations too. I don't know of a better sight for reviews of lodging in major cities.
Thank you. That is what I have been doing, and I'm getting such reviews all over the place, that I don't know which hotel to pick.
I have to disagree that hotel reviews by professional reviewers are "better" than those on tripadvisor. On the whole, I have been much more satisfied with the hotels that I have chosen based on TA reviews than I have for hotels that I have found in guidebooks. Guidebooks typically have 3 sentences about a hotel.
I agree that there is a problem with fraudulent reviews; however much of that can be mitigated. On TA, you can click on a user and see prior reviews that they have posted and forum posts. By looking at their other posts and reviews, you get a good sense as to whether the review is likely to be legitimate. Additionally, some people post photos of their rooms.
I'll keep taking the risk with TA.
If you want to induldge yourself a bit, check out the Pulitzer Hotel. It is on a lovely canal, just a brief walk from Dam Square and about 2 blocks from the Anne Frank House. We have stayed there before and it was great! It is "composed" of several houses that they "joined" by adding doorways so it has lots of different levels, interesting angles, etc.
I disagree with Steve somewhat. While I agree that the tripadvisor forum can be rigged by "stuffing the ballot box", it's the only place I know where average travelers write their opinions.
If you read the forum, you can judge the hotel based on a number of travelers who stayed in different rooms at different times. Usually the combination of good and bad reviews gives me the ability to get a good overall impression of the hotel before I book. I can decide which hotel(s) I want, based on what is important to me.
Trip advisor also has a good search engine for getting prices on rooms and booking online too. Since I usually don't book ahead though, I can't vouch for that.
