I am planning a trip to Ireland this spring / summer and wondered if anyone has some suggestions on accomodation near Connemara National park? Also...any recommendations about day hikes would be great too! Paul
The town of Clifden is a great place to stay. There are numerous B&Bs along the Sky Road that takes you straight past the park. The scenery is incredible.
Lonely Planet publishes a Hiking in Ireland guidebook. If you don't want to buy the entire book, you can buy individual chapters and download them in PDF format. This chapter includes Connemara.
Tim and Nancy...thank you!!! Paul
Hi Paul, The Sea Mist House in Clifden was wonderful...an easy walk to the downtown and very comfortable. There is also a road that is just down the street that goes along the water and took the place of a "real" hike! If you stay at Sea Mist House, you will see a church behind it. Walk up the road to the church and it over looks the town. The is a trail system within Connemara National Park. I just took off and went for a few hours. I ended up going more North so I spent little time there. If you like horseback riding, there is a great place in Cleggan (20 minutes from Clifden).
Have a good trip!
