In June we booked a house in Gudvangen, Norway for one week for this June. Owner requested a 2000 Krone payment for "electricity/etc. with a payment for the house due 2 month prior of arrival. In November we had to cancel for family reasons. The owner refuses return of money (even though it was more than 7 months in advance) and became kind of rude. Is there and office of tourism or Chamber of Commerce where I might file a complaint? Any help or suggestion is appreciated. M. Wilson
How did you find this house? If it was through an intermediary of some sort, that's where I'd complain. Your experience illustrates a rule I've learned about travel: ALWAYS ALWAYS ask about the cancellation policy BEFORE you send ANY deposit. If the place doesn't have a clearcut cancellation policy, book somewhere else.
