College Student Discounts in England ??????

Do college age students get any discounts in England with their ID for proof? ex. metro, museums, etc.

It doesn't hurt to ask. In order to be sure you can get them, however, you need an International Student ID Card (ISIC) available for $25/year. Google them or find your nearest STA Travel Office (in most major college towns) by going to www.statravel.com (I think).

college students get discounts in just about every corner of europe. Usually just your normal ID from your college is enough- I was only asked once for my ISIC card specifically (in a museum in San Gimignano, Italy). Check the websites of the places you are interested in seeing- usually there is a section under the prices listed as a "concessions" price or something like that, covering seniors, youths, and/or students. Note some places only give discounts to EU students, although most take any student with ID. I have never seen, however, a Metro system giving student discounts, but I haven't done much travel in England specifically.

Mostly museums and other sightseeing attractions.

If you apply for membership with Hostelling International, you can also get discounts at any of their member hostels (both in USA and overseas), as well as discounted rates to some sights and also discounts at certain restaurants, coffee shops, on international calling cards, etc. You don't have to be a college student either to get a member card and the benefits.

About the HI card- if you're not sure how many official hostels you'll be staying at, you can get a guest emmbership card at the first HI hostel you go. You pay to get a stamp at each one you stay at, and after 6 you have a real card and you ont get stamps any more. It costs the same to get 6 stamps as it woud to buy the card, so it actually works out really well.

I was in Oxford and London last summer, and my ISIC card came in handy quite a bit. Most museums and historic sites had a student price; I'm older than the traditional student, but no one even questioned my age as long as I showed the ISIC card. With the high price of everything in pounds, every little discount really added up.

Do I really need an ISIC card or will my college ID card be often? I'll be traveling in London (where most of the museums are free so it doesn't matter), Cambridge and Bath.
I haven't really seen any museums or attractions specify the ISIC card, usually just the valid student ID.

You might not absolutely need it but it's a good way to not have to worry about your ID being accepted. At $25 it's worth the piece of mind for me personally.
