Coffee & tea on Hurtigruten Norway coastal voyage

We picked up from Cruise Critic that the coffee on the Hurtigruten ships is awful as well as expensive. Does anyone know if you can get a cup of hot water for free on the ship? Thinking of bringing ownmug, tea bags and Starbucks Via packets.

I haven't taken the Hurtigruten, but am really surprised to hear the coffee is bad. In general, coffee in Scandinavia is of quite high quality. Gevalia which was sold here in the States as "gourmet" brand is the basic brand you buy at the grocery store in Sweden. All of the Scandinavian countries lead the world in coffee consumption per capita. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Listofcountriesbycoffeeconsumptionper_capita Nevertheless, you might look for a dual voltage immersion heater to take with you. Alternatively, if you have time in Norway before you depart, you could also go to a department store and get a small electric kettle.

Hei Hei- We did 4 days of cruising on Hurtigruten, and did not purchase the meal plan.
We "borrowed" mugs (for the duration) from the ship cafe, & were able to make coffee in our cabin, as the tap water was SO HOT. We brought packets of Starbucks from home. In the mornings, when we were wandering the ship, and ready for another cup of coffee, we would drop in the cafe, and use their boiling water, & steamed milk. They didn't seem to mind. We did the same routine for cocktail hour..."borrowed" wine glasses, & would bring our wine to the upper deck, for sunset. Have fun!!! Patsy
