Cobh Ireland- Touring the area in 6 hours

I am looking for suggestions on what I should see while docked in Cobh. I've already seen the Queenstown Story, kissed the Blarney Stone and toured Kinsale. I hope to hire a car/driver so I'll have 6 hours to tour around. What else is in the area that I should see?

You could go up to Cahir and see the castle there (one of my favorites), and then continue on to see the Rock of Cashel. Or stop off in Blarney to do some shopping at the Woollen Mills.

Thanks Nancy. I like the idea of seeing Cahir Castle.

Jo, it sounds like the OP has already done the "tourist" things in Cobh on an earlier trip. And sitting in a pub all day might not be what everyone considers the best use of their time on a short stop. Cahir is not too far to go for that time period.

Hi Suzy ,I'm from Cobh and can answer you. What date are you arriving and how many hours between stepping off and back on to the ship. Chances are ,you are going to be in port for no more than a couple of days if that. So don't bother goin to Cahir or anywhere too far ,it will just stress you out. Let me know and I'll give you some good advice .

Sorry about that , I just noticed that you did say how long you were going to be there, 6 hours. Don't bother leaving the town firstly. So get off the ship and right there, like in front of your nose, is the Immigration or Emigration museum if you are so inclined . But this is a tourist spot and you can probably take a virtual tour online when you get back to Selma. I was in your town in Feb. I would strongly suggest to call this taxi or any taxi, I'm sure there will be tons of them waiting for you Phone#: (021)4812299 and tell them that you want to go to Jack Doyles Pub. That's all you have to say ,not where or do they know it , NOTHING and tip the driver 5 euros is plenty . Anyway this pub is just up the hill from where the ship comes in but far enough away from the throngs of people getting off it. It's as close to an "Irish" pub as you will find and they are so used to Americans there and have a better time for southerners
you'll see a big Bust of Bob Dylan behind the bar. Tell em Bubbles sent ya. They'll call a taxi for you when you're ready . Have fun!
