My husband and I will be travelling to London and Brighton on September 4th-18th. I have seen the average temperatures for September but would like to have someone suggest what type of clothing I should pack.
Kathy
Sitting here in Brighton at the moment it is pouring with rain, which is about standard for this summer. It's been wet all summer, and August is shaping to be the wettest on record. I'd advise, therefore, that you bring a waterproof!
It won't be really cold - even in the UK we have some warm weather in summer! - but it might be wet and windy. On the other hand September is often reasonably sunny.
Probably the best thing is layers, as the weather can be really changeable in September.
Hope you enjoy your time in Brighton.
Alan
Alan, what about "normal" mid-October weather? Thanks!
I'm leaving for London/Scotland in 3 days. Its gong to be 75 a few days in London and in the low 60s/50s in Scotland with a good chance of rain. Trying to pack is a bit a challenge. I'm sticking with a black/gray/white color palate for tops and pants, and packing stuff that can be layered and a couple of cool weather and a couple of warm weather outfits.
Jennifer, for the Scotland portion, bring a water proof jacket. I also always bring a fleece or sweater. You may need that layer. Of course, you can always buy a beautiful sweater to keep you warm if need be. Then again, there was the year that I got a Scottish suntan in early September. I think you can define Scottish weather with the word changeable. ; )
Thanks so much, Alan. This is just the "eyewitness account" I was looking for. We also have a lot of wet weather, but our Octobers can be quite nice. I'll hope for the best!
Lauren
In October I'd expect a high of around 60 and a low of around 45. Again there will be rainy days, so a waterproof is handy. As Kent suggests my advice would be layers.
Having said that, with the changes in global weather, things have been a bit different the last couple of years with sunny days and less rain through to the end of October, so you could be lucky.
Bear in mind that Brighton is right on the south coast and, although we generally have similar weather to London, if you go further north it gets colder. Similarly if you go further west it tends to get wetter. Friends in Belfast say that if you can't see the mountains it means it's raining and if you can it means it's about to rain.
Cheers
Alan
