Chunnel from England to Brussels

We land at Heathrow at 11:05am and have pre-purchased a chunnel ticket to Brussels departing at 2:30. What is the most economical and fastest way to get from Heathrow to Dover? Thanks for your help!

Are you saying that your ticket is for Dover to Brussels?

Does the Eurostar stop at Dover? First I heard of it.

I assume you made a typo when you wrote "Dover." The Eurostar leaves from London St. Pancras International. The cheapest way to get there is to take the Tube (Piccadilly line) directly from Heathrow to the King's Cross/St Pancras Underground station and then take a short walk to St Pancras International train station. The fare is 4.00 GBP. The Tube ride will take just under an hour.

The fastest way would be to take the Heathrow Express to Paddington station and either the Tube or a taxi from there. However, this would be a costly route choice just to save about 20 minutes. (The Heathrow Express costs 16 GBP.) Unless your flight is really late, you'll have plenty of time to make the whole trip on the Tube.

First, it's not called chunnel it is Eurostar. If you call it chunnel in the UK you will get some funny looks. No, it doesn't stop in Dover however it does stop in Ashford International, Kent.

The only way you would need to go to Dover would be if you accidentally bought a ticket for the Le Shuttle car-carrying trains from Folkestone to Calais (for which you need to be in a car) instead of the passenger-carrying Eurostar trains. You didn't do that, did you?

KARLYE; We need more info before answering this question. There probably isn't enough time to get from Heathrow to Dover or Ashford and arrive in time for the train. There would be time to get to St Pancras in London for a 2:30 train.

We do not need more information. There is a train to Brussels that leaves St. Pancras International at 14:34. That has to be the train Karlye booked and she must have typed "Dover" by mistake.

Or she thinks she has to go to Dover to get the train....I hope not.

By my initial posting, it's clear that I can't multitask and post at the same time :) Thanks for bearing with me!

We are looking for the quickest and most economical way to travel from Heathrow to the Eurostar-London St. Pancras International to pickup our train to Brussels (I will make sure not to call it the chunnel!). Our flight lands at 1105 and the Eurostar departure is at 230pm.

By the posts, it appears that Tim's response would still be correct after my clafication.

Hi Karlye,
I've done the Eurostar to Brussels from London; though I was leaving from my London hotel and not Heathrow. I would recommend one of two options: 1) taking the Heathrow Express to Paddington and then taking the tube or a taxi from Paddington to St.Pancras [ http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/user/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2] I typed in the route into the London transit trip planner if it doesn't load just go to their main site http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk. / the Heathrow express is the better bet as opposed to the Tube if you have more than a suitcase or two since tube cars may get crowded. Option 2) and it may be a little more costly but will get you to the train on time, is to hail a cab and agree on a flat rate from the airport, from London Westminster to Heathrow last year I paid the cabbie £40 flat so no meter. No it is not cheap, and no it does not take that long to get from Heathrow to St. Pancras, however, if your plane is delayed, or there is a line to go through customs and then you have to wait for your bags you will also be sure that you do not miss your train.
Hope You have a great trip,
If you have time while in Belgium I recommend taking a day trip to Bruges on the train, easily accessible from the Brussels main rail station.

Karlye...I want to add that your ticket from London Brussels is actually good to any station in Belgium on that day.

As an example, My plans are to travel by train from London to Luxembourg. My Eurostar ticket will take me to the last stop in Belgium which is only a few miles from Luxembourg City. I only have to pay about 8 euros for the last remaining part of the journey.

If you have plans to go anywhere else in Belgium besides Brussels, you might want to go there first as the trip, at least one way, will be free.
